Cleaning Your Walk-In Cooler Or Freezer

Keeping your walk-in cooler or freezer clean is a critical step in properly maintaining your freezer or cooler unit. Cleaning your walk-in cooler and freezer helps to keep your area clean so you can store your products safely.

Before completing any cleaning in your cooler, it is crucial to turn off the circuit breaker to prevent accidents or injuries.

Timeline for Walk-in Cooler and Freezer Cleaning

The various components of your freezer or cooler need to be cleaned at varying intervals to ensure efficient performance.  The best practice is to clean each twice per year, but sometimes environment or heavy traffic areas can require more frequent cleaning:Bally Walk-In Cooler

  • Evaporator coil- it can accumulate sediment over time. You need to use a special evaporator cleaning solution to clean the coil. To clean the evaporator coil, remove the bottom of the pan of the coil and clean with the solution based on the cleaner instructions.
  • Condensing coil- dust and debris build up on the components. You can use a wet cloth and industrial vacuum to clean the coil. You can also use the vacuum to blow air to remove the dirt and dust from small crevices and hard-to-reach areas.
  • Drain lines- they can become clogged over time. Mold and debris can build up in your lines, and they can be difficult to clean, so it is best to work with a qualified technician to drain your lines properly.
  • Door gaskets- With a soft cloth and warm water, you can remove the build-up from your door gaskets. This should be done at least once a year to ensure that your door seals properly.

When cleaning your walk-in cooler or freezer, be sure to avoid harsh chemicals that can damage the metal surfaces in your cooler or freezer. We recommend a combination of soap and water be used for cleaning.

You are better off using a gentle solution and cleaning more often than using a harsh cleaner infrequently. For tougher stains like hard water marks, you can use a solution of vinegar and water, and you can remove mold or mildew with bleach and water.

Keeping Your Walk-In Clean Prevents Odors

Keeping your walk-in clean of mold and mildew also helps control odors that they cause. Of course, there are other potential smells, such as rotting food in corners or leaks.
